Madonna of Mercy
acrylic on hardwood
12" x 16" (unframed)

This icon was written in 1992 ~ commissioned by Ignatius Press as second choice for Totus Tuus, a book about Pope John Paul II's devotion to Mary. The first choice was a similar-themed image in a French museum. Publication date was getting close, and permission to use the French art had not yet come through ~ at the last moment, the French image was approved. The Madonna of Mercy Icon was donated to a church. Unfortunately, the icon was stored improperly, and was damaged so is under restoration. The renewed icon will be better than its original condition. Framing can be included in the price as a custom choice. A gold leaf frame of two or three inch thickenss might be a perfect setting for the icon.

Postmodern Me
mixed media
30" x 40"

"Postmodern Me" was started in 2006 as the final project for a painting class. The imagery is of fire and water, symbolizing the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. There are many dimensions to today's living! Kathleen has created a self-portrait that attempts at catching a glimpse into the amazing reality of life in the Holy Spirit while living life to the full. All wise choices lead her upwards, toward GOD. She feels suspended in air at times when nothing in the material world support her. Only GOD truly can support us, especially at the most difficult times. Living as a Christian visual artist in the middle of secular city life is always a challenge. Yet with the Holy Spirit, through the Church, a holy life is not only possible, but is truly the ultimate way to live.

Seraphim Spectrum
cut paper from Color-aid Pack
Seraphim measures 13.5" across and 13.25" tall (unframed)

The science of color interaction is an amazing study! This class project explored the various 12-color spectrums; there are three in Spectrum Seraphim. The imagery of the seraphim is mentioned in Isaiah 6:2-3, and is used in many Byzantine Icons. The plan is to paint sharper detailing on the face. Custom framing is optional; gold leaf framing or enamel colored frame would be just right.
